This blog has been created to share my experience on passing Project Management Professional (PMP) exam with 'Above Target' performance rating in all Process Groups (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling and Closing) in the first attempt. This blog describes a KISS (Keep It Short & Simple) approach for passing the exam.

'Above Target' is the highest performance rating in PMP exam.

As soon as your PMP application is accepted, schedule the exam

As soon as your application is accepted, schedule the exam factoring the effort to prepare for the exam without waiting to complete Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep and PMBoK. For someone like me who prefers studying at a slow pace, I suggest factoring 180 hours of effort. 3 months of study should be enough if
you can study for 60 hours per month; that's about 15 hours per week.

Scheduling the exam is an extremely important step because it brings a lot of seriousness to preparing for PMP.

Consider scheduling the exam for a date which is at least 45 days away so that you can postpone the exam for free 31 calendar days before the exam date if  you are not feeling confident. Note that a fee will be charged if you reschedule your exam within 30 calendar days of the appointment. I used to keep a reminder on my cellphone calendar as well as my Microsoft Outlook Calendar to remind of rescheduling the exam 31 calendar days before the exam.

For more information, read through the section on "Exam Policies and Procedures" in PMP Handbook which covers topics on "How to Schedule Your Examination" and "Rescheduling/Cancellation Policy for CBT Exams".
