A lesson learned from my experience is to read Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep before reading PMBoK. I found Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep to be quite challenging and hence it kept me motivated to complete reading the book.
I feel that I did the mistake of reading PMBoK before reading PMP Exam Prep. I would take more time to complete the chapters in PMBoK because
I did not find it to be challenging and would sometimes doze-off reading it. After reading PMP Exam Prep, I was able to appreciate the content in PMBoK. So, I suggest reading PMBoK only after reading Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep.
I also watched video series related to PMP and stopped it after spending 4 hours because I felt that the benefit was not worth the effort. There were also other presentations related to PMP that I may have spent 8 hours studying, but again, it was not worth the effort. So, I suggest keeping it simple, and only studying Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep and PMBoK; in my opinion, these two are sufficient to prepare for the exam. It's important to take at least 3 practice tests after revising PMP Exam Prep and PMBoK. If you do not feel confident after taking the practice tests, you may choose to read other study material.
My take on Head First PMP vs Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep:
I started reading Head First PMP along with Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep, but I found Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep to be more challenging than Head First PMP. I felt that the benefit from reading Head First PMP along with Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep, was not worth the effort. Hence, after reading a few chapters in Head First PMP, I stopped reading it. However, this is my personal preference and can be subjective. I have noticed that some of the PMP Certified acquaintances prefer Head First PMP over Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep.
